HighSchoolSports.net is the online publishing arm of Schedule Star LLC ("Schedule Star"). Schedule Star was started in 1964 in Midland Park, N.J., by Adolph "Sonny" Santorine. Sonny was a former professional baseball player with the Brooklyn Dodgers minor league organization. After Sonny left baseball he started a career in teaching and coaching at Midland Park High School. By 1964 he was coaching football, basketball and baseball and was the school's Athletic Director.

As the Athletic Director, he quickly learned about the complexity of managing all sports programs --- facilities, coaches, students, parents, officials, scheduling, transportation and much more. To stay organized, he created a custom book, much like a day planner, tracking all the logistics of all sports. Sonny attended the various Athletic Director conferences at the league, state and national levels and showed his peers how he stayed organized. They asked if he could make books for them. Athletic Directors with Sonny's book would tell others about their system and requests for the book started pouring in. So, on top of being an Athletic Director, coaching three sports, and raising three children, Sonny decided to market his book. He and his wife Helen bought a small printing press, put it in the basement and Schedule Star was born. Through the 60's, 70's, and 80's Sonny and Helen attended Athletic Directors conferences across the country and marketed the book. Each year, Athletic Directors would pay for refill sheets for the book. Moreover, through this period he kept his "day" job teaching, running the Midland Park High School sports programs and coaching.

In the 90's as technology started to change, Sonny and Helen changed with it. With the help of their oldest son Adolph, they launched a software package for schools who wanted to introduce an electronic organizer. Then in the later 90's, Sonny handed over the day-to-day operations to Adolph and his wife Lora Kaye. Adolph and Lora Kaye launched an internet software package for annual subscription, which with the rise of the internet, took off. In October 2007 the Santorines sold control of the business to an entity of Gannett Co., Inc.
